This was almost turning into a "Sausage Party".

 

I would count yourself as fortunate as hell that someone would give you 12.5 back on a $15,000 piece of Jewelry with the outrageous mark up on the stuff

I would grab the 12.5 in a heartbeat and sit on it. You can always repurchase the ring or one similar if necessary. The 12.5 offer could evaporate and i am pretty sure no one else would give you that for a piece of 'used' jewelry.

 

Not to be a Debbie Downer but breaking up/getting back together usually indicates a deeper problem. Instead of resolving whatever issue there is, it's easier to just say "I'm done!" and the problem will keep coming back.

Maybe hold onto it for a little while but at some point you have to figure out whether or not this is right for you and if the relationship is something that is sustainable in the long term. If you can't get through this rough patch then what's to say you'll be able to handle another rocky time further down the road?

Get the dough-ray-mee for the ring, figure out how much you'd want to REALLY spend for the next one.... subtract the NOW from the Then and call it profit.

I'm sorry to be frank, but paying that kind of money for jewelry of any kind is ridiculous. I paid $500 for my Wife's ring and she bought a secondhand ring for me for $50. Its just fucking jewelry. $15k would be much better spent as a down payment for a house, retirement, or something else.

Lastly, Diamonds are basically one big farce. Debeers has a virtual control over their mining, production, and sales and as such are not allowed to trade in the USA. They can only sell to other re-sellers whom bring them to the US. So the markup on them is often 1,000% or more.
