Obviously I can't speak personally for them. But my referral came from a trust worthy friend who has used them for a long time. About as good as you can get from 1,100 miles away.

Hope you can get it all squared away.

That's the sixty-four-thousand dollar question; if you're capable of doing your own fab work, or if someone makes a plug and play kit, it is probably cheaper to drop an LS in there, if not, my gut tells me replacing your 3.5 will be the best option.

You somewhat need to know what the cause was....
Zero need to teardown the old engine though...
But if a bad "stuck open" injector bent a connecting rod...
You dont want to install a new engine with the same faulty injector as this will wipe-out the new engine...

But the dealer knows this, hands down youre at the right place.....
They know their product, they know what should be replaced along with the engine, etc....
Theyre not just going to hack it back together & sed you down the road, regardless if it right or not, like your other tech did...

there was no reason to throw an injector at it, if it truly had a severe knock...

Lol, yeah OP paid someone to do the spark plugs I don't think an ls swap is in play. Especially for 11k.
(Probably in play at 2x that price.)

An LS swap would be amazing... but... emissions inspections...

Nevermind the hassle of getting all the oem electronics to play nicely with an aftermarket ecu setup.

Very sorry to hear of your troubles, OP.

As long as the engine is newer than the frame, you shouldn't have an issue with emissions or verification

There's lots of older ls motors in junkyards that would be cheap to rebuild, but PA has to abide by cali's carb equivalent for emissions inspections, at least in my county. One county over from me and its just a safety inspection.

I'm assuming you also mean you keep/use whatever oem ecu and header to cat exhaust setup for the emissions with a new(er) yesr engine swap.

Have you had it since new, and if you have, how often was the oil changed?

    Quick question for yall..
What would be a decent amt to ask for a Toyota Tacoma 4Ă—4 dbl cab sr5 71k mis, blown engine? (Long block situation)..
It has Cooper tires, less than 2k on them, nice fabric tonneau cover, bed liner, bully bar on front, window louvers, weather tech mats, graphite gray, gray cloth interior. Interior is in excellent condition.. (I kept it covered, front and back, body has scratch on tailgate and 2 dings on drivers side.
I have all the receipts for all the maintenance and upkeep, but I think at this point, that's not going to be important.
Dealership offered to cut me a check for 7k.. I may be delusional, but I think that's a little low. It's why I'm asking here.

Look at dealer retail and assume the engine was still good. Subtract 10k and what is the result?

300,000-400,000 miles on those engines is the norm. Having one die at 71,000 is either bad luck or bad maintenance. I'd find a scrapyard engine with 75,000-100,000 miles on it and have it put in. Not sure how that much would cost but a wild guess is under $5000. It should be good for many more years. Even if you decide not to keep the truck it's going to be a lot easier to sell and you'll come out better selling a working truck.

I was wondering maybe you could sell it part by part and get more money out of it instead of throwing it for 12K ish. You could place it on Copart , lots of flooded, dead engine cars etc there but selling it part by part might be better idea.

$4-5k is a good price on this route.

And a lot cheaper than a new truck
