how you figure? 12k for truck, 3500 for engine, weekend and a case of white monsters later you're out cruising. That truck sells all day long around here for $25-28k with those miles. While Id like to say it would be worth less than that the market is all sorts of backwards on used cars lately.

It was/is 8221.00 for a used engine, 61 or 66k mis. Another 2300.00 to install and whatever the seals and fluids cost. A short block was over 4k, just the block, no heads etc.
This is coming with a 24/24 warranty. I know no one that would do this for anything less than what I'm being charged.
This whole scenario has been a shitshow from the git go.
There were no indicators. Ran ok, didn't burn oil, didn't smoke. It just made a "ting ting, ta ting ting" sound and died. I've done all the service and oil change every 5k or so mis.
This is my first Toyota, and if I can ever afford another vehicle, it will be my last.

I'm not sure where you got that price for a used engine, but it is more than double the going rate.

The mechanic was recommended here. He found the motor(s). I picked this one because all others while cheaper, only had a 90 day guarantee on labor.
This one was 24/24 on parts and labor.
I can't afford another hit like this.. EVER.
Since this has happened, I've literally been a few steps away from selling the house, buying a new truck and used camper and being done with the whole domesticated thing, I've been borderline feral, for years.
This has been going on since mid January. I hate to play the female card, but I really don't know the stuff or ppl that you guys do. I followed the advise and recommendation from a member here. I feel reasonably good about the advise.. I'm ready for this to have an ending.
If I could of truly gotten what I've purchased cheaper, I think the mechanic would of found it for me.

Sounds like the mechanic is offering a warranty on a used engine at a premium, which does nothing to make the part any more reliable...he's just willing to adopt the risk for a big wad of cash up front. I'd ask the specifics of what his warranty terms are, he might be silly and look for any reason under the sun to deny. Used engines are notoriously a gamble, low mileage doesn't mean much without pulling it yourself after verifying condition.

It's your truck, ask where he's getting the engine from. If the seller is the one offering the warranty, you need to know who they are and not let the mechanic be the middle man keeping you in the dark.

This is a sad situation to be in, regardless.
I would not recommend buying a new truck and camper however; campers rot and fail more frequently than a home, and new trucks have their own issues.

You have two options in my opinion get the truck repaired and go on your merry way for two years then sell the truck or you could get it repaired and go trade it in right after and get something that has a different warranty to cover you for longer.

Not knowing what your financial situation is or what your lifestyle and hobbies are. There are lots of proven vehicles out there and then there’s Hyundai and Kia with their 10/100,000 drivetrain warranty. I personally have two Volkswagens and I really am impressed with the Tiguan 2.0l turbo engine good seating position, fuel economy, cargo space… I have only had one issue with the VW at all and that was a wheel speed sensor that was covered under warranty.

Lots to ponder. Good luck and try not to make a knee jerk reaction.

I'm still shocked that the first mechanic sent you down the road with some pretty serious problems looming. Saying the vale was bad, but letting you drive away is pretty poor. Valves don't get better and you saw the result. I hope the place Bill recommended is better.
