I should start taking my car to independent shop from now on. I've been going to Firestone for over 20 years now for all my cards.

Both Firestone, and Midas here do decent work as far as the smaller stuff. I've had the Midas shop do a tire alignment on my tundra that a local toyota dealer claimed was in spec., yet my right front tire kept wearing out prematurely....turned out the camber was barely in spec., but needed more positive caster to solve my uneven tire wear problem. Op probably needs to find a shop that does the heavy lifting type general repairs as a buddies place, pulling engines, rebuilding transmissions and differentials, besides all the other stuff. Outside of the auto dealers, most shops here only do brakes, tuneups, and alignments, replacing the average wear parts like shocks, and struts and the good ones are booked up for weeks.

I got my Tacoma back 8/17/23. Paid $5600. They had to overhaul the engine by removing it and clean and replaced all the gaskets because they said it had 80% leak in cylinder 3 according to the diagnostic. I went to work on Friday and on the way home in the afternoon, the problem with my Tacoma came back. I gave them a call and didn't get any response until the next week. They did diagnostic and same result as last time. This time they said the intake manifold in Cylinder 3 needs to be replaced. I asked them why it didn't show up last time? They told me it was not broken last time they did the diagnostic. Now they told me that I have to pay $1000+ for the parts. They said it was not covered with the warranty because it was not the same problem even though it was in cylinder 3. After my wife and I argued with them we ended up losing and just let them fix it because it needs to be fixed. Very frustrating because the truck is only 6 years old (2017).
I also had a c2124 code on TPMS. The system was not detecting any of the sensor. They told me that one of them needs to be replaced but they don't know which one. I'll be paying almost $500 for it to be replaced. I'm thinking that may be the spare tire needs more air. I probably need to get the broken sensor if they ended replacing it even though there was not wrong with it. I bought 4 new tire and may just need to be reprogrammed or put more air on the spare tire.

It’s not Toyota scamming you. It’s a dealership. There’s a reason most of us avoid them at all cost.

Sorry to hear OP. Unfortunately luck of the draw. This can happen to any massed produced vehicle. My brand new 1992 Toyota extra-cab 3.0L V6 5 spd Toyota truck had the head gaskets fail twice in and out of warranty. Toyota fixed them both times at no cost to me. I enjoyed that truck for 14 years. Still sold it with great re-sale.

I expect that I could have any number of issues with my current truck in the future. The hardest part sometimes is knowing when to cut your losses.

In terms of regular maintenance and catastrophic repairs the hardest part is finding a trusted, Tacoma specialty shop. They seem to be rarer and harder to find these days. A good shop seems to have wait times of weeks.

    Good luck with your issue.

I agree. All my vehicles are Toyota because we don't know anything about cars and Toyota seems to be the most reliable. I've been trying to avoid not to take it to the dealership because they will charge you so much. Just this time I had to because my wife was listening to everybody that the dealership is the professional and they know everything. I told her yes they are very professional of charging you so much. With today's world, everybody is gunning to rip you off.
