UPDATE: so they checked the codes and it has something to do with the rpm revving more than it should be. even when the car is parked! the engineers at the dealership could not solve the problem every time the delete the codes they come back up again. in conclusion they contacted the head quarters in California and they opened a tech case and hope fully they will contact me tom. in such a random case like that and i have a warranty 5 years covering everything can i request a new vehicle ? i mean what if they fixed it and it came back ? i would literally got a broken car and will go back and forth to the dealer. need tips and professional advice and recommendations where you at TACOMA owners help!

So. My light came on about 3 months after I bought my truck. I looked up the light on this website which encouraged me to check my gas cap. That fixed it. 1 month later it came on again. I took my truck in to the dealership for a seatbelt recall and mentioned it to them. They said it was my gas cap. I already had a locking gas cap but I bought one from them to hopefully fix the problem. Guess what 2 months later it came on I went to the dealership and yep they said that it was probably my gas cap. I told them that I bought one from them two months ago they said buy another one. I politely told them no thank you. So I watch my temp gauge and get the code reset when I get my oil changed.

What code is specifically being thrown? If I remember correctly it will have something to do with a leak in the evap system but don't know the code offhand. Are you sure the code is the same each time the light comes on and if so it the leak might be somewhere else in the system.

FYI some aftermarket caps can be notorious for setting a leak code.

I'd just keep throwing parts at it.

Had the check engine for Jeep. Had put a locking gas cap on it. Mucked with it for a week or 2 and finally put original gas cap back on and no more light.

Im totally at a loss, my POS truck keeps misfiring, but last time my friend ran the codes he cleared them, so as i was waiting for it to miss again (thereby setting my CEL on again for us to get a new reading my friend can "trust"), of course it did- but while on flat road this time. I was really pushing it, gassing the mofo so as to get up to the speed limit (no power!) so the big line of cars behind me wouldnt all hate me (couldnt pull over on this road). But it went straight to the flash, never stayed solid. As soon as it did that i stopped accelerating and babied it until it just stopped flashing and went away. That was last week. So yesterday i go to check codes and NOT A SINGLE TRACE of anything! As if it never happened! Is this normal?? My battery wasnt reset or anything, how could this be?

Do you have a 3rd gen, or do you have the '01 in your profile? If it's the '01 you might do better asking the 1st gen section. (assuming that it is the '01), misfiring would definitely cause a loss of power, but It sound like you just need a tune up just from what you have stated, new spark plugs and wires. granted this is the simplest fix, and without knowing anything else about the vehicle or what has been done to it, there's not much we can help you with.

Yes its 1st gen. I have done many things in attempting to fix/discover the cause of the misfire. I was more wondering about the disappearing code, as I was under the belief that every time the CEL comes on it produces a code. Add to that the additional severity of the flashing (from how everyone I've read thus far regards it), shouldnt there have been a code? Or does this just sometimes happen?
