Am I the only one who has a chirp noise coming from the engine? I took the truck to the dealer for the service upsate and was told it was the fuel injection pump

The weird thing is though that mine used to do it (bought it March of this year). I've checked recently over the past couple thousand miles (now at 10k) and I haven't heard the noise anymore. I haven't changed anything so I'm unsure what did it.

I had it. Had the pump replaced and it went away for 500 miles now its back again and getting louder. I noticed that when I get arco gas its louder then chevron so I think gas quality has something to do with it. I brought my truck in so I have them "notate" all the issues, that way you have it documented. dont just talk to them, make sure you bring it in and they write it down for issues down the road. Also the master tech said there is now a TSB on the pump and they are working on it although I have not seen or verified this info... but this was as of this morning

I posted about this when I bought my 2016 last spring. I took it back to the dealership with about 50 miles on it and they told me it was "normal." I still call BS. I understand that all Tacomas have some ticking engine noise...What I don't buy is the high-pitch chirping noise is normal (my best way to describe is that is sounds like crickets under the hood). If it is normal, whoever designed it is a moron. The only time I don't heard this noise is first thing in the morning when the truck is cold. I have listened to other Tacomas and I don't hear the same noise as I do on mine. I just took this video/audio, take a listen and let me know if this sounds like your truck. https://youtu.be/x6YmhLgYomk

yup, that's the sound. I notice mine mostly after driving just before cutting off. I'm not sure if it's the recording but it may a bit louder than mine.

Ummm that's the Atkinson in the Atkinson motor... the ticking is fuel injection self cleaning. Totally normal...
    OR
It's a truck they put crickets in the engine to make it sound like yer out in the woods wheeling when yer just crawling around the mall.

The dealer replaced parts for that sound? Huh... that's something, not sure what but yeah something.

its the high pressure fuel pump pushing 2/3 thousand psi. Its not normal for them to make chirps so loud you can hear them in the cab with the windows up. I took my truck in for an alignment and the master tech walked up to my truck from 40 ft away saying "I can hear it, I can hear it" because he thought I was there for the chirp again. Its a flaw in the design that makes it chirp.

I was commenting on the sound of the engine in the video posted... it sounds normal to me. I heard ticking... didn't hear any thing abnormal.. chirping... didn't hear it.. I do hear 2 distinct ticking sounds, Atkinson ticking AND the self cleaning fuel injectors... at idle... those sounds go away with more throttle input.

I don't sit around in my truck long enough at idle for those sounds to bother me, do I notice them, yes .... I've had this truck for 14 months now, I'm used to it.

Try a TRD air filter... that will change the sound at idle. I have one.

What kind of sound from the filter at idle? It's just a K&N style filter correct?

Most annoying sound in the world. I am at the dealership right now to have it checked. The initial service guy said what I expected, "that's normal". I still asked them to have the mechanics take a look. Stay tuned and I'll let you guys know the outcome. The outcome will probably be an hour of wasted time but oh well.

So after an hour the answer is...it's a normal sound new Taco's make due to the high pressure fuel injection system like others have mentioned. Unfortunately I didn't find this thread until I was sitting in the waiting area at the dealership. I talked to one of the mechanics and he said he's seen 2 this week for the same thing. I was also told that Toyota released a memo/Tech Tip to them advising it's "normal". Hmm...annoying but I guess I can live with it.
