The issue is related to a common denominator.
OPs. mine and your are a different year models , but has a vacuum pump.
Or hydro lifters getting sticky due to the head milling issue.
If you look at all examples, it is always the right(pax) side. They right side has chronic issue leaking oil and afr imbalance codes

This is all such great info. You guys are so awesome for taking some time to help me. I have a TRD sport and the 2 i compared to were TRD offroad. One 21 and one 20.

I can make any more videos to help with the sound just, let me know where to stand or to rev or anything. or even video chat if any are willing.

Im just worried. I bouhght it exactly a year ago with 60k miles. I heard the knocking/chugging noise faintly in the test drive but ive never owned a truck before to know if that noise was good or not. I really hope its not the bottom end, i would be devestated.

What are some other symptoms of bottom end, HPFP, or Vacuum pump? I can tell what else im experiencing if i know.some other symptoms possibly?

    Thank you guys again

You can’t compare the noise to the OR model it doesn’t have this type of vacuum pump.

I would agree. Mine sounds the same especially after the engine has fully warmed up. Currently at 150,000KM (94K miles).

The vacuum pump is on the right rear of the engine, but I don’t hear anything that sounds like the vacuum pump acting up. They make a clackety racket when they go. I don’t really hear that here.

Ive been told about the HPFP andVacuum pump. What should I look for to help me determine what is going on? Are there other symptoms of these going out?

    Thank you all again

I don't think it's the high pressure fuel pump at all. Those make a chirping noise or they leak fuel, that is all they are known for.

The stethoscope idea is a decent one, maybe put it back there on the vacuum pump. I don't think you have a vacuum pump problem though. Based on your latest video I don't think you have a problem. But that's just going off the video.

It’s from the vaccuum pump which is sitting right behind bank 1. I took my 22’ manual to the dealer multiple times for this and they did nothing but diagnose it to be coming from the vaccuum pump.
HPFP sits right in between that and where you can hear it from the most on the passenger side

That TSB is edited to not include the tacomas. Either that is true or my Toyota dealer made a fake document that the NHST doesn’t know of.

I just read that revised TSB what a bitch. I have one year left on my factory warranty and if mine starts making the slightest noise hopefully they will replace it under warranty and I might as well be looking at an extended warranty.

Also I just called corporate and they said it’s up to the dealers to post in the NHSTA apparently. They actually just updated it again in August of 2024 to include the tacomas. Sorry this is just new information today for me. Same TSB. I’m scheduling an appointment
