Hello all I am new here, I have been experiencing valve clatter almost constant on my 2012 tacoma V6. It is currently at the dealership and I am getting the run around over this issue.
Can anyone help me with some mechanical knowledge ?

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Hrm. Read this thread, all 10 pages if you can manage it.

See if that matches your problem. If so, known issue, no fix from Toyota, Toyota is aware, Toyota doesn't give a shit. They're more concerned about keeping Prius customers happy (seriously).

Open a case with Toyota Customer service people (they're useless, but document it with them). Push the issue with the Service Manager or Service Shop Foreman at your dealer, try some of the fixes (which are hit-and-miss) and see what happens.

Man, this is starting to blow goats. I'm hearing, on average, 2 reports of this per week on this forum alone.

    Thank you ,
I had to explain to the service writer 3 times what I was experiencing.( this is also the 2nd time I have been to the dealership with this issue) Today he calls me and say's that he has had everyone from the service manager to the "Top Technichian" take it out and still can't replicate the "clatter"
So I pick it up and get 3 miles down the road in traffic and yes you guessed it "clatter". $%@#*&^%$#!!!!!!!

I am, i do know that a higher octane gas would help this issue but my stance is this is a Toyota problem and I want them to fix it!! I also know this may never happen!!

Try 91 or 93. If it helps you, bite the pillow on the extra $5/tank and be happy the engine is running well. Seriously. Better to avoid harm and get it fixed later than to stand pat on the 87 vs 91/93 issue.

Op mine made the same noise in the 10 pages thread listed above. Tried all the little cheap fixes. Switched over to 93 oct and after three tanks noise is almost gone. You'll most likely find the injectors to be the culprit. I too took it back after hearing the noise after three times a young tech came over and walked me to a new 13 and it had the same noise. He said only thing he knew to do was better gas. Or 100% gas.

Also reset your computer after the first fill up. It is a learning comp and needs to relearn the fuel trims. Best of luck.

A '13 having the noise may not be the best comparison test. At idle, the motors are all normally clicky and ticky and sometimes a little rattle-y. At 1500 (did you drive the '13 or just listen at idle?), this noise is pronounced and not good.
