I will probably end up having to end up replacing my engine soon. I was wondering what engines are compatible with a base 2nd gen tacoma, I am also interested in figuring out what the biggest compatible engine is? also any tips on where to look online for engines would be appreciated.

It looks like your truck is a 5 Lug with 2.7.
The 2.7 form 2005-2015 is what you should probably stick with:thumbsup:

The 2.7L and 4.0L are the stock engines for the 2nd gen Tacoma's, while you can technically change between them you would have to at a minimum change the transmission, PCM, engine/transmission harness, and probably other stuff I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. It's not as simple as just swapping the engine.

There's other engines that would physically fit in the 2nd gen Tacoma but again you would need an engine/trans, PCM, harness, and various other parts and mods to make it all work.

Many thing's are possible it comes down to how much time, money, and effort you wana spend to make it work.
