engine cover mod

That looks really nice. Get a red battery. The yellow sticks out. Really looks good as a whole. Great job. Don't know about the emblems but hey, you never know you could do them and if you don't like it go badgeless.
Black on red would look great though.

 

I like it, and a cheap mod to boot.
What other prep did you do before paint?? Nice and clean under that hood, make me want to go out and clean mine up.

 

if you use the Krylon Fusion paint like i did, you dont need to do any prep other than to clean it thoroughly. cant get much easier than that

Ok, I went to Autozone and looked at all the different paints available... Krylon seemed to stick out the most, as the best to buy for the particular application. My question is this... How has the heat from your engine effected the application?

I am wondering if something like Krylon BBQ paint will work just as well - but with the heat resistant properties.

Any ideas? Any painters out there?

 

i didnt do anything but clean it before hand.

 

i'm not usually into stuff like that but i like it when i have seen it on other trucks. nothing flashy but it looks cool when you pop the hood to have your engine cover match your truck

 

well after driving for about a week and a trip to my parents and back (2.5 hours one way) the paint has held up. still shiney and not bubbled up or chipping. guess i made a good choice in the krylon fusion.

nothing new. paint is holding up very well. still looks new. you should go ahead and do it

 

I like the way you only used it as and high light and not paint the whole thing. I think that would be to much

yeah me too. saw everyone else with the whole thing painted so i wanted to be different.

But I'm thinking of redoing it in red and blank like yours, since I've painted my calipers and skid plate red.

Wonder if I could get the paint off (didn't primer it) or if I should just buy a new engine cover? I can get a new engine cover from ToyotaPartsSales.com for around $100 (if I can't find a junk yard first...).

yours looks great. wanted to do the letters and symbol in red as well but couldnt get the tape to come out as good as i wanted it to so i left it alone.
