I see no point at all in removing the cover. Whatever amount of heat it holds in is inconsequential in my opinion.

My 4 banger has no engine cover and I’m sure Toyota could’ve engineered an engine cover if they really wanted to.

I did the same. Plastic covers in an engine bay make zero sense to me. Under pans on some vehicles help with cooling. The Taco one certianly isn't.

Now take off that back bracket the cover hinges on and the 2 front "ball nut thing-a-ma-jiggies" and it'll look even nicer

I kinda like to assume that Toyota engineers and designers know what they are doing since my '96 all stock Tacoma has 414,000 trouble-free miles on it. So I don't typically have the urge to change everything just to be changing it.

Maybe Toyota could have saved money by deleting the engine cover instead of removing the auxiliary trans cooler. That seems more useful.

I also remove all the outlet covers at my house, just keeps the heat from the switch inside the wall anyways.
    *im being sarcastic

But really, the engine cover is there for 98% of people who buy this truck and want it to look nice and neat. The cover does exactly that, it covers the mess of wires and hoses that are generally not great to look at.
Believe it or not, but toyota doesnt build these trucks for the tacomaworld users.

Did it bother u that much ?? Not like u can see it under the hood . I would just leave it .

The plastic covers in an engine compartmentserve a few purposes: The obvious, cosmetic purpose of maintaing a “clean” appearance. Protect the motorist from moving parts and dirty surfaces when performing the most basic maintenance items (checking oil).

No insulation blanket on hood. Will the increased temperature harm the paint?

It did bother me. :homer: Reminded me of the shrouds and other BS under the hoods of M-Bs and Lexus. None of our other cars had one except my wife's Forester where it helps direct air through the intercooler.

    :notsure:

I think the underhood temps top out at less than 170F? Direct sunlight is going to be a bigger issue in my mind. Also, though it isn't aesthetic paint, there are painted surfaces near the cats and they are not really affected in a relatively worse condition than plastic covering plastic?
