Okay so some of you are probably going to horse laugh at this thread, but I'm just a little concerned. I used some Gunk Engine Degreaser around four days ago. I didn't realize you were supposed to rinse the stuff off afterwards. Being that the product is so strong and has been left on the engine/transmission for some time, will any wear on seals/gaskets be noticeable? Or am I okay? I plan on washing everything down tomorrow, but just checking to see if anyone else has had the same experience. I sprayed the product around the power steering pump (some overspray on the belt, but wiped off the best that I could), engine block, and oil pan.

it might start to deteriorate the rubber where is was left on. I know it eats paint from experience using it on greasy heavy equipment. I've left in on for 2 days and it ate the paint off the frame on it. it says do not let dry I think on the directions on the can.only time will tell though hopefully it doesn't hurt anything

My ex did this once and not nearly that amount of time. It ate the plastics and ruined all aluminum component finishes.

I think she used Purple Power.

Shiiiii okay, this maybe a hard lesson learned. I did; however, drive it in the rain a day or two afterwards, so maybe that's on my side. I tried not to get it everywhere by putting some cardboard in certain areas. I'm going to inspect it tomorrow and hope for the best. Rookie mistake :frusty:

I tried not to get it on very much plastic at all. I primarily focused around the power steering pump and the side of the block. The only reason I did so was to clean off all of the power steering fluid that had leaked. I'm hoping I'm in the clear considering I wasn't spraying it everywhere.

Honestly I just use Simple Green on a warm motor. Let it sit a few minutes, scrub it need be. Rinse with a garden hose.

Would recommend this in the future.

I have better luck with simple green then engine degreaser. But op if those are the areas you focused on you should be ok but do rinse it good, spray some simple green and rinse it again to help get off any residue

I checked everything over today. All looks well. It may have took some of the aluminum finish off the bottom of the block, but it's a truck with 120k on the clock. It's not perfect, so I'm glad it didn't seriously mess anything up.

Calm down, it will be fine. Rinse very well with low power hose while engine is cold.

Its not that powerful of a chemical. You cam get a good quality rubber conditioner from Chemical Guys or Adams Polishes to help treat the hoses if there is any loss of color.

No loss of color as far as I'm aware. Everything seems to be alright when I rinsed with Simple Green.

Rinse with water. Simple Green is just another cleaner. Which is actually likely stronger than Gunk.

I detail (not just clean) my engine bay twice a year. I've had no problems with rinsing with a hose.

Yeah I sprayed Simple Green on everything because it needed a good cleaning and rinsed with a garden hose.

I usually just use soap and water whenever I wash the truck. The last step is to lift the hood and give everything that I can reach a wash. I've been doing this all my life. The engine bay never gets dirty, well maybe over the winter. I don't do it then. Wait until everything is cooled down, and don't use a pressure washer.
