Yes, you are right, 200 miles so far and no issues, hopefully that will end up being 200,000!

For a good many, it is. Just keep up on maintenance, do your own checks frequently, and double check work done if you take it in. I've always taken mine into the dealer and read everything they did and check it before I leave. It's been funny calling them out on stuff, but still 0 issues.

Also curious if anyone as input on this. Hopefully just an outlier

    Fun fact.

I brought my nissan frontier to the dealer for something really minor, like a loose heat shield or something, under warranty. They opened the hood, were listening to it and said, welp, you need new timing chain guides, unrelated to the loose heat shield. They kept it for one day, tore down the whole thing, replaced the timing chain guides, and had it back to me that night or the next morning.

As it turns out, one of their suppliers had forgotten to deburr a run of timing chains they had produced, so they would eat through timing chain guides way faster than they were supposed to.

110,000ish miles later it still runs perfectly fine.

The lesson here is that car manufacturing is a hugely complex process with dozens or hundreds of suppliers and thousands of parts. Frankly its amazing to me that vehicles are as good as they are, there are so many ways for things to go wrong. Things are bound to go wrong on occasion, and its really luck of the draw on what vehicle you happen to get. That said, Toyota has a pretty good track record, which is why they have a good reputation. But that doesn't mean they're perfect.

I'm not gonna get started today. Just glad OP was able to get it to the dealer and spread the word on what was happening.

Which person are you referring? OP or the guy who just bought one and rethinking? Nobody is turning on Toyota, just relaying issues. and discussing.

You should get the extended warranty to 120 k miles free of charge after that. That’s some bullshit and not normal.

Could be an issue in the MFG process. Bad sand from the casting. Wrong temperature for the pour etcetc. Because they keep meticulous records, they might know what years were affected etc.
