    Mostly dust and dirt.
I wonder if engines made in Japan have this problem.

Hey troy, welcome to here. So....here's some food for thought, like anyone needs food for thought. What sensor on the truck detected "machining flakes" in the motor, which were not completely rinsed out during manufacture? Ah, to my knowledge there are none. The only thing that might lean to that is P1349 (general VVT solenoid, variable valve timing). This is kinda a new thing out there where this solenoid works off of oil pressure in the head. It has a really really small screen that filters oil and if you have some contaminates get in there, poof! throws a code. Just a guess. But for everyone interested, when you get a check engine light, pull into a O'Rilley's, Autozone, or Advance auto and get the code read. Don't pay too much attention to the kids there. We love the kids, but at least get the code, and go back out and look it up on the interwebs. Education is a good thing. We don't want to walk into the depths of hell, (dealership) without knowing whats up. You have to be on the offensive or you're just one of the 80% who get's bent over. Welcome and thanks.

I just think it’s cool Toyota has a sensor for flakes.

Yeah I'm glad OP was able to get it fixed, but he should had taken it in to the dealer in the first place and get it covered under warranty instead of asking questions on here.

BTW, that makes you and I forum chums then @JaCado

Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 2 Mechanical Failure. Like I said above, this is a huge deal these days. Not in this case, but the repair industry is having a field day with this.
Example. Bobby adopts his fathers advice and uses 20w50 oil in the new truck because dad has done this for 85 years.
100 miles later, CEL on, truck is having a bad day. Takes it to the shop, charge is for new solenoid, $hundo parts, $hundo labor, $75 oil change. Problem fixed.....
Customer could have just changed the oil.
    Another....
Laura's truck comes on, CEL, P1349 or simular. CHECK THE OIL!!!! Laura is 1500 miles over the oil change period, oil is toast, dirty. CHANGE THE OIL!!!.
    Lol.
Viscosity, cleanliness and oil level will flip this code.......oh, and flakes..

To clarify, what physically caused the error message to illuminate? Is there a chip sensor (magnet) that displays the code when enough metal material is present?

I'd be worried that the oil pickup was clogged with shavings and flakes...

Did you ask to see the metal and old filter? There’s no way I would have left without that.

P002107 is a VVT solenoid problem I explained above. It was clogged and caused the CEL.

Hmm. Every time I got new vehicles I would always change the oil after 500 miles just to get rid of the break in shavings. Later I thought maybe I was too paranoid and stopped that practice. I should go back to doing it. My 2020 just passed 500 miles. I may change the oil. Now lol

Im with you on that, although I typically do 1k miles for cars/trucks and 300 miles for motorcycles since the transmission and clutch share the oil.

My truck's flake sensor goes off every time I get in. I can't figure out why. Doesn't happen when I let friends use it.

how do the particles get by the Oil filter? I thought this was the filters main job is to prevent unwanted particles from running thru the engine and cause damage, a lot of oil filter manufacturers brag about 99.9% filtering capabilities of their products

So if it was the VVT widgets that threw the code, then judging by that chart, the shavings probably would have originated in the head and then washed into the oil pan. Clearly some of them got sucked up by the oil pump and made it to the filter. So, long term, could be head damage, but I'd expect the bottom end to be fine, except maybe for the oil pump and possibly a clogged screen.

I'd be asking for an extended warranty though, there's a lot of guesswork there. I'd also want them to drop the pan and check the screen.

Meanwhile, poor quality control of the radiator supplier for Frontiers basically killed them off. Anyone ever hear of strawberry milkshake frontiers?

huge problem, huge lawsuits. Nissan won’t admit to it because they would probably cease to exist if they did. They even hide it from customers if it’s found.
