If your fuel regulator wasn't... regulating the fuel, each injector pulse could be dumping in more fuel than anticipated and the engine could flood. Sounds like that was the culprit. Good detective work!

Any backfires when it does run? I have seen times when you run fine and shut it off for the night and jump the timing chain causing big problems. You have a belt I think, ever changed? I can't remember what they look like is been so long. Any other codes at all? If the white smoke had a sweet pungent smell it would be coolant and you would now it pretty easily. I have seen injectors drip but never one stuck open pouring fuel in the jug ( I guess it could happen). I am curious about this one. I know this sounds stupid but, check for 12v at the battery as the ecu needs all of it. If the oil is full of gas, changing it out is a good idea before damage occurs.

Thanks for the feedback. No backfire and do not have service records for this truck. It was a wholesale deal about a year ago. It took a long time to find a truck that meet my criteria. Truck was very clean/original and well taken care of. I do have a timing belt replacement scheduled in the near future. Truck runs to good to have jumped time, even one tooth. Good ideal though, I can see that would change the on/off cycle time of the injectors which the signal is feed downstream of the crank trigger switch if i remember correctly( haven't fooled with this stuff in many, many years).

Truck does not overheat and no odor of coolant is detected. There is a hint of fuel in the oil but I have already changed it now that it seems to be fine. Fuel will defiantly breakdown the oil velocity and then its metal to metal on bearings, cam lobes, cylinder walls etc.

I also added a bottle of injector cleaner to a full tank of fuel to help clean out any potential garbage that may have been in the fuel system that could have caused an obstruction in the injector(s).

For all of those following along sorry I don't have a more exact cause of the original problem. I know if it happened to me, it could happen to anyone and at a less convenient time. If it continues I will certainly chime in with more issues for more ideals.

I replied to the first page and didn't see you fixed it already. I thought you tried the fuel regulator and it didn't change. It was my very first thought. I am glad you are up and running, good luck

Hey guys, having a similar problem with my truck can't get down to the source. 3.4 tacoma manual. Just had top end done. Spark plugs, wires, timing,
It cranks n cranks. Fires every now and then. I took some advice from this chat, and took the plugs out and tried firing the truck and it appears gas is flying out of cylinders 1-3-5

If you haven't cleaned those injectors it could be a good time to think about it. Dirty injectors stick open or leak.

Gotcha, thinking of just ordering some new ones and get it out of the way. What's the best way to clean them if I did

You can send your current injectors to a company like MotorWest who will service and flow test each injector, or you can buy a new set of denso injectors from them. Most (including myself) get the new denso injectors.
