Engine knock LOUD and rough idling

OK.... i know the engine makes the normal engine ticking from the direct injection. I was leaving work engine is fairly cold and all of a sudden it start idling rough and knocking loud. pull over and shut the truck off immediately. start the truck again knocking and idling like shit. shut the truck off panic sets in.... knocking is coming from passenger side valve cover toward the rear. call the tow truck. mind you i never had a CEL pop up.
tow truck takes me home....
I literally thought i dropped a valve or something in the valve terrain is FUBAR.
get home take a deep breath start the truck everything is running normal WTF!
I have seen that the brake vacuum pumps fail and make noise but i have a OR so apparently they don't have the pump if you have crawl control. I have read the high pressure fuel pump makes noise but has never sounded like this it was very loud.

^^^^^^This is the exact sound it was making video claims it normal but the rough idling def isnt....grrrr
I plugged in my code reader and says it had a misfire on cylinder 6.. ok makes the rough idling make sense. I just changed the plugs maybe 4-5 months ago all oem. also had a code stating knocking possible bad fuel pump but why the hell did everything go away.
I use the bluedriver bluetooth code reader if you're familiar it reads a bunch of random codes.
Has anyone had this happen????

 

I had this happen twice to me. My truck has less than 40K on is and is 2021. Even my girlfriend was in the truck when it was happening asked what is wrong. so I take that as a stronger sign than people dismissing it as "normal" taco tick.

Both times it went away on its own... shitty part for me is it only happens on a dirt road 20 miles from anything including cell phone reception. there's a lot of hoping while driving out

 

Of what I could see or hear I think it is coming from that hose with the blue end on it. I think it may be the EGR valve but not sure. Pull the hose off and see what happens.

 

Comments in the video are saying its a bad vacuum pump and it is replaced under warranty

 

Pretty sure that does not apply to the Off Road

 

Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump is going bad. Does not sound like a rod knock.

 

its funny how people compare the sound they hear from a video, the mic quality is not that good so its not a good representation of the sound.Have you heard your voice on the phone before ? It does not sound the same

 

You checked to see if a plug is loose?

 

Have you had the recall for the high pressure fuel pump done?

Says 60k warranty and I know if I go there they will say can’t seem to see the problem or can’t duplicate what the customer says

 

There have also been reports of a spark plug working itself loose but it seems to normally be #5

 

I misspoke(typed?). It's actually a TSB and is limited to the warranty time period described in the TSB... So he may be out of luck. It is not a safety recall.

I was however just asking in general if he had it accomplished or not, and it seems like most likely not.

Just drove to gas Station and drove to get food the truck runs like a top again. I thank all of you for the replies it will help if it comes back again.

 

Mine makes a similar knocking noise since I bought it new. I just posted a thread about the rough idle/running issue but I don’t have codes.
