hey y’all. New to TW and hoping to find some answers on my truck issues or at least positive sentiments. 2017 4x4 has what sounds like a knock but at very least the lifters ticking when accelerating from 60-70 @ 2000rpm or so, and when I release the accelerator is when the knock happens.( louder if climbing hills)It’s at the dealership and they decided from TMB that a new VAC pump is the answer. We all know that’s not true. Any opinion or direction is greatly appreciated. Oh ya! Warped rotors as well. Only 17k miles. Thanks in advance

Is it a ping sound? Or like bearing or rod knock? Is it worse on hills but still only when you release the accelerator?

There's a TSB for the vacuum pump knocking, it's common. Why not let them try to fix it before you lambaste them online?

@Athlaos yes knock. Yes worse when on a hill. Yes only when releasing the accelerator

@Bishop84 easy there stud... there are other threads explaining the issue and the replacement of the VAC pump and it didn’t fix the issue. Therefore; I’m not out of line with my hypothesis.

Honestly in my experience bad bearings would get LOUDER if you HIT the accelerator... but I guess more prominent on deceleration isn't out of the question. Maybe on hills the RPM is higher, therefore the "knock" is more prominent? Not sure. Wish I was there to hear it myself... what did the dealership say when they assessed the vacuum pump?

    .

Here ya go boys!! Not fixed. They did change the VAC pump but that’s because it was noisy at idle, had nothing to do with the knock at 2k rpm. The service manager basically admitted without actually saying that there is obviously an issue but nothing they can do without a TMB. Im starting to believe this is a somewhat serious issue that Toyota is not acknowledging because of monetary reasons. I’ve opened a case with Toyota and they are well aware what’s going on and our very helpful with outstanding customer service. But... my truck is not sounding good. When this all started the first dealership seemed reluctant to want to investigate it after a little, as my wife calls it “ give em a little Eric” I got the service manager and here we are. I approached another dealership and they refused to give it a look. Yes! Refused. I contacted Toyota about that and was called by the dealership today telling me to bring on in. I’m a determined guy. I’m seeing this through. I think it’s bullshit that they want 33k for there trucks but won’t follow up on substantial engine noise. I’m sure there are many points I missed but this is the bulk of it. Again any help is appreciated. And a question to you all. Am I out of line here? Is this not a big deal and I’m overblowing it? Let me know. Thanks

It says the same noise under the same conditions was heard in a different truck. Is that what you observed also, or did they do that without you?

@toyotatacomaTRD tjey did that themselves. Seems funny to because mine didn’t start doing it until 14k miles. This whole thing is really fishy

That's unsettling. If it really bugs you, I'd have you ride with them to duplicate it. Mine may do it, but it's not something I've noticed. I usually listen to music. I guess the main thing, if it's a problem, you have the issue documented, which will help you later on. Good luck

They say “ a barely audible noise” ya ok. If that’s the case I must have super hearing. And guess what? I don’t! I work around machinery and have done plenty of metal work my entire adult life.
