For your own peace of mind, take it to the dealer and have it checked and documented. For what little it’s worth, mine is quiet with no
    unusual noises.

Mine has the clicking, ticking, diesel kinda noise also. So did my 2nd gen Tacoma. Never had a engine problem with it either.

Mine sounds like complete garbage too. Def not use to it, never owned a vehicle with “injector cleaning cycles” sounds like BS to me any way...

With direct injection the fuel pressure is very high to be able to inject fuel into the cylinder while under compression. The new engines have port an direct injection. Lots of injector seats that have to seat well and crisp.

Every v6 gen 3 Tacoma I've heard idle including mine sounds like a subdued diesel. Some a little louder than others, some quieter. But all clack to some degree at idle. If mine didn't Id be worried. There's a shit pot full of gen 3s around here and one gas station. So I've heard a bunch idling.

    Newbie here, myself...

I had the exact same worry after I got mine fresh off the lot (50mi on tach). Took it to my local mech, he mentioned to test drive a few exact models to compare - which I did. Same sound.

I can say, after about 15.5k+ miles, sound goes away (or quieter) after it’s a bit warmed up. Plus, everything I’ve read says it’s the injector/valve clean cycle.

Best part? Worries went away and I drove the heck out of it!!! No issues at all!

Haha! Yeah.....that extra fuel piping to the second set of injectors is just for looks.....y’know, when you have the fellas over, crack a beer, and are all having a look under the hood at your 3.5L........

Good grief......the nonsense I read on this site.:der:

Well. Just bought my SR5 last Saturday, have 909 miles on it now, and noticed a loud clacking sound at idle when I got out of the truck while it was still running. Looks like mine is doing the same thing as many other people are saying.

But this is a mechanical sound and ITS NOT NORMAL!

I've owned three Toyota Tacomas and never had this problem with my first two. One was a 2001, the other was a 2004, and now my new 2019 is clacking like a POS.

I've rebult engines, used hydraulics, flat tappets, high lift, low lift, you name it. They only clacked like this when a lifter was mis-adjusted.

    I want my money back!

    Cleaning cycles?

    Give me a break!

You can either accept that Gen3 engines are noisy and move on, or you can drive yourself nuts over it.

It's actually the Clickety-Clack feature. The Clackety-Rackety feature comes standard in next year's model.

Welcome to the 0/20 oil engines... this oil is so thin. Pick up a quart and shake it. No cushion between parts now. Run 5/20 once. Sounds a lot better.
