Well long story short my fan started hitting the shroud and when I went to Investigate I found that the driver side motor mount was caved in. My truck is a 2005 DCSB 4x4 TRD offroad V6 6 Speed with 161,000 miles. Once again another 2005 has been claimed by thin metal and bad engineering. Wanted to get some input on what my options are as far as fixing this and getting my truck back to normal, I highly doubt the dealership will do anything about this and after researching it looks like I'm looking at a $1000 minimum to fix at any Fab shop willing to take on this job. Any input from you guys and gals on here?

Was it the rubber mount, which attaches the engine to the frame, or the frame's perches? Any pictures?

Damn, in that link the whole mount was ready to rip off! Looks like a fun fix, lol. Not a ton of space to work with!

Frame perches, that connect the mount to the frame

I'm stationed in San Diego, got pointed to DMZ by another guy too. Probably gonna order the kit in the next few days and I may have found someone willing to do the work too. But at the moment I'm still researching.

1st run of a new generation will have troubles. Head gasket issues can plague 05s also. Look at all the troubles with the 3rd gen tacos. Couple more years and they'll iron out the issues.

Yeah definitely didn't cross my mind when I purchased this truck. Before the 05 I had a 94 pickup, 99 Tacoma, 02 Tacoma, all with out rust or frame issues.

I had a 93 4wd SR5 pickup, pre Tacoma. Definitely a tank of a truck. Never should have sold it.

All fixed up by a local Fab guy I know, gusset kit ordered from DMZ. Kit cost $130, fabrication fix cost $680. Definitely less than what I was expecting.

My fabrication guy already took care of that, let's just say I have no regrets about going to him.

You need a set of these too...the reason it ripped the frame is from the flex and the "spring back and forth" effect of the weak stock mount. if everything is tight you wont have issues. No flex = no damage.

PM me and I could give you the number of my guy. Originally got it from Satin Pelfrey at Pelfreybilt. Total cost was $130 for the kit from DMZ and $680 in labor... kit has gussets for both sides and that was the total for both.

The DMZ gusset kit is a great upgrade if you can weld or have the $$ to pay for it to be done. But you still need to upgrade the weak stock motor mounts to prevent them from stressing your frame all over again. Or the mount breaking in general.
