Hello, this is my first time on a forum, I hope I can get an answer. So I bought a 84 Toyota pickup with a 20r. It's a mud truck sitting on 38.5's. Long story short, I took it out once and after a few hours of driving normally, the engine started ticking really bad. I shut it off immediately, oil pressure and level was fine. Towed it home, pulled the head off and sent it to a machine shop to have it redone with all new parts except for valves. They said all the valves were good. $350 later, I got the head back and reinstalled it with all new gaskets etc. I installed all brand new parts (timing cover, chain, crank and cam gears, oil pump drive gear, water pump, timing chain tensioner, oil pan gasket and cleaned oil pickup tube/ screen, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, carb with electric choke...). I readjusted all the valves and set the timing and I am getting a very loud ticking from somewhere up top near number 1 cylinder. I am 100% positive I have the timing in the right spot as far as replacing the chain. My oil pressure is near 60 psi. My compression is 150 psi on all 4 cylinders. I am dumbfounded and am asking for help in the right direction. The only thing I can think of is that the machine shop didn't see one of the valves bent. But if that were the case, I wouldn't have great compression. I used a stethoscope and it def sounds like it's coming from up top.
