The powertrain is 5/60, while you are at the Dealership have them start another Tacoma so you can compare how it sounds.

Mine sounds like a diesel as well sometimes. Been doing that since it was new, sounds like a sewing machine at times. These engines do make interesting noises. Im pretty sure the noises you are describing are normal.

Like others have stated , best thing to do is go to your dealer and compare engine noises from other tacomas. Good luck!
