Hey all, new to the forum thanks to my Tacoma making some noise and I don't want to start replacing things trying to find it so hopefully someone here has experienced the same noise. My Tacoma has 278,000 miles on it and has developed two noises that I can't put my finger on. There's a sound that I can only think to describe as the sound of a supercharger haha I wish, but that's what it sounds like. It happens any time I hit the throttle and then abrubtly goes away after a certain amount of throttle and only does this when the engine is cold. I have absolutely no idea what it is and I can get a video with that sound too if no one knows what I'm talking about. There's another sound that I'm thinking is the belt tensioner but I'm not sure. It also only does it when it's cold and slowly fades away as the engine warms up. I've uploaded the sound I believe to be the belt tensioner to YouTube to post it here:

Please let me know if you have any experience with what these two sounds are. Thanks.

The noise in the video sounds like it could be an idler pulley. You can pop the belt off and spin them to see if they're rattly.

Okay thanks, I'll try that. I'll also see if I can get a video of the supercharger sound in the morning.

Yup....with that many miles of you have not started replacing things on the accessory drive you will likely have to start doing so in the near future.

Idler pulleys are easy. Check your tensioner but those usually don't fail (but the pulley bearing will). Alternator, water pump, power steering.

Try putting your AC on and off to see if it goes away that could help narrow it down.
