Thanks for all the replies guys, now I know I'm not the only one with this problem, I have a pack of gaskets and after all the free oil changes I might put that Fumoto valve.......TW has all the answers!

Comes with the extended warranty. I bought a 160k 7 year extended warranty with mine, and it includes first 3 years of maintenance.

Every new toyota comes with toyota care for 2years or 25k miles. (whichever comes first) So basically it's 2 free oil changes.

We preemptively replaced the battery in my wife's Sienna right after 3 years. It tested fine, but I didn't want to deal with the potential of having her and the kids stuck in a parking lot somewhere, since Toyota's OEM batteries have a well-reported ~3 year MTBF. Replaced it with Walmart's private label (EverStart?), which has a great reputation despite being very affordable. The actual cells are identical to other brands costing twice as much.

I left my crush washer on there and never had any leak issues. Every 5k miles. So about 12 changes used 2 or 3 washers no problems

Does the Fumoto have some sort of lock mechanism on the valve? If not, seems too easy for anyone to flip the valve and drain your shit.

Edit: but it's not going to stop anybody if they wanted to sabatoge your shit.

Just like the drain bolt wouldn't stop anybody either IMO

This is the first I've heard of this fumoto drain. I'm coming up on my 6mths of ownership, I'll grab me one of those. Any other stuff like this I don't know about? I think I have to go back and re-read the 3rd Gen DIY maintenance quick reference again. o_O

True. I mean, if you've pissed someone off enough that they want to drain your oil, then a locking Fumoto valve isn't going to stop them from wreaking havoc on your vehicle. It's just as easy to cut a brake line, loosen the brake line caliper bolt, loosen lug nuts, put something in the gas tank, etc.

I'd be more worried about something hitting the Fumoto valve just right that would cause it to start draining.

For sure. I run the nip-less one on my truck while I'm trying to decide on a skid plate that will protect it better.

i have changed my oil a few times if i remember there is a skid type metal shield with an access opening to get up to the drain plug. per your pic the oil will come out at a 90 degree angle seems like the oil will flow all over the top side of the cover i described. maybe i am missing something? even if i am wrong the oil draining out at 90 degree angle you will have to position the drain pan off to the side then when the oil starts to slow down you will have to move it back towards the center . i just take out the plug and the attack the filter by the time i am done the oil has stopped draining. one downside is when i remove the drain plug i just let it drop into the oil bucket then when i transfer it oil to gallon jugs i retrieve it. that gizmo would help in that regard.

You can get the Fumoto valve in different designs, the one I have has a nipple pointing straight down that you can attach 3/8" tubing to it that goes straight to your drain pan, you won't spill a drop.
