And anything large enough to cause damage will be picked up by the filter.
Anything large enough to damage the oil pump won't make it through the pickup.

And you should be draining the oil when the engine is hot and freshly shut off.
Any mysterious metal shavings that DO happen to be in your engine should still be in suspension in the oil.

Again... 1 to 5 ounces of absolutely filthy oil is not going to be enough to pollute 176 ounces (5.5qts) of new oil
We're talking less than a dixie cup in over a gallon.

Anybody have a Fumoto with aftermarket skids (Pelfreybilt, Budbuilt, etc.) ? Wondering about clearance to get your hand in there to be able to open the valve to drain.

    Photos?

I am also interested. Seems to be a common mod. Here are some photos from the net.

Be aware that in addition to the Fumoto threads extending above the inside surface of the pan, the pan itself has reinforcement around the drain plug that will prevent full drains. Does not look like any meaningful amount of oil would remain in the pan. Here are some more photos from the net.

There was a thread not too long ago by a guy who stripped out his drain plug changing his oil. I'll take a little oil left in the pan over having to change out my pan because the plug threads stripped out.

I just replaced my lower oil pan this past weekend. The oil pan retains a good amount of oil anyway. So when I filled it back up with 5.5 qt, it was low a half a qt. It looks like our trucks hold 6 qts of oil total, but the engine plus the dip in the oil pan will hold about a half a quart.

The amount that is blocked by the fumoto valve isn't even worth worrying about.

Considering it holds 5.5 qts, that would make sense...

More of a daily driver thing I think. A big rock could shear it off I'm sure, but if you have a big rock knocking the thing off, you usually have other issues to contend with at that point, and not all truck related.

I guess if you wanted to get all the oil out and still have the ease of the valve, you could hang a custom flush mount fitting with a jam nut on the bottom of the pan, then the valve. Would require removing the pan and doing work inside probably. No thanks.

A reliable valve?,,I can see that it's well made and it has been endurance tested. No worries putting it on.

I had one on my WRX (no nipple). Once Toyota care up on my Taco I'll be putting one in. They work very well and make life easier. I've got a full set of Pelfreybilt skids. If manage to mangle them so badly that the fumoto gets hit then I feel I've done something special.

    Now you did it.

Toyota is going to sell a lot of FIPG.
I just knew that drain plugs, first on engines, and then on automatics, was a bad idea ;)

I'll clarify, for those actually interested in and contributing to the thread. Considering the filter oil and a 5qt jug of used oil, filled to the lid, I'd say it doesn't prevent from draining properly.

I run the fumoto with the nipple on mine, if I remember correctly it was the F103N, and I have an ATO 1/4" IFS skid. The drain with nipple sits plenty above the skid, so it is very well protected. The ATO skid has a large enough hole to reach in and open the valve. Makes changing the oil so much easier and no mess on the garage floor after its done.

Anybody have photos of a Fumoto with aftermarket IFS skid? I'd like to see clearance and how accessible the lever on the valve is.

This pic is from an earlier post and it was from the web, but I think this guy has the sealant on the wrong side of some of those bolt holes.

And WAAAAY too much of it.

Hopefully he gives it a couple of days to fully cure before refilling and starting that engine.

Needed to loop sealant around each bolt hole for a PNW correct silicone seal. Almost got it right. Definitely a wide bead, I don't know if I would get that crazy unless I had a really bad pan and had The Right Stuff going on.
