Yep, you can get a 5 quart jug for usually under 25 bucks. Cold season, make sure to go with a 5w-XX or lower. I'm partial to the Mobil 1 Porsche uses in their vehicles from their factory, the 0w-40. But if that scares you, you can run the 5w-30.

    Miles and condition of truck?

Plans on how long you'll own it?

Are you willing to run extended OCIs?

The most important thing is proper wt., API and being kept changed appropriately.

There are several OTC products that work just fine. No need for any boutique products.

I normally use Toyota oil, but the most recent oil/filter change, I couldn't pass up the great deal from Napa. They had (and still have, I believe) a 5/30 synthetic blend for 1.99 per quart (had to get a case, however). It wasn't a Napa-labeled brand AFAIK. Labeled 'Super S . . . ' .

I used it on both my Toyotas, and so far so good. Anyone else try this stuff?

    156,000 miles, 'good' condition

I'm actually selling it in about a couple of months

No idea what OCI, WT, and API is.

Pennzoil yellow bottle. I just stopped using synthetic. Waste of money if I'm doing 5,000 mile oil change intervals (OCI's).

I can't tell any difference in performance. Cold starts just the same as the M1 I used to use. A lot of people love the Pennzoil Dino oil.

    American Petroleum Institute.

Since you don't know what got you there, it doesn't much matter what you put in it, brand wise.

Whatever wt it says on your oil fill cap is fine.

I use Valvoline 5W30 like the manual calls for. I get it at Walmart for around $16 for a 5-quart jug.

Pennzoil has a lot of paraffin in it. If you aren't good at doing oil changes on a regular basis it can really gum up a motor. I prefer Valvoline dino oil or Mobil1 synthetic.

Castrol hands down, ive seen lab tests aginst competitors and it wins by a landslide. Castrol comes in high end German cars and corvettes from the factory. If your selling it soon id put in dino oil if your keeping id go for Castrol full synthetic.

If I can jump in an ask a question.... I have a '03 taco 205,000 miles, original owner. I have changed oil every 5k with 5W30 Amoline (sp). Truck runs great. Should I change to synthetic, or should I just keep with the regular oil? If I go with synthetic what weight should I use? I want to keep this truck for ever!!

If you are not leaking oil or burning oil, just keep doing what you're doing no need to change anything.

Thanks I'll keep doing what has worked so far, good advice. I was just wondering because synthetic is talked about so much on TW.

I like to use 'motor oil' even though I have an engine.
