I would agree. I think with the 2012 model both the tundra and the tacoma should atleast get a Turbo Diesel option.

Glad to see the 4.6L V8 and 3.0 Diesel as options leading the pack. Seems like most people out there have sense.

They might, but they'll look harder at sales numbers, which tell them the Tacoma sells just fine in its current configuration. They don't want to drop a V8 into the Tacoma because they'd probably lose Tundra sales if they did.

The Tacoma is full size now. Compare it to the previous generation Tundra: The numbers are almost identical in terms of size, curb weight, payloads, and capacities.

Compare it to the F150, Ram, and Silverado of the mid 1990s to early 2000s...once again, all the vital statistics are within spitting distance of one another.

It has a payload close to .75 tons. The only reason the Tacoma isn't considered full size is because full-size is now supersized. The only reason it doesn't have a V8 is because today's V6 engines do what V8s did ten years ago.

Arguing necessity is it's own beast, but I think it's hard to deny a diesel or V8 option for the Tacoma would be fun for almost anyone and useful for many.

I think what you're trying to say is "now that full size trucks are absurdly bloated, everyone's perception of full size is skewed". And I'd agree.

Vehicle creep in America really is frightening. The amount of oversized, overbloated vehicles on the road today is mind boggling. Of course, that could have a lot to do with the oversized, overbloated people in them.

It will help, just not with towing. A more responsive vehicle overall (and potentially a better crawler) isn't a bad thing. And yes, it would help control towing loads.

I already touched on why Toyota won't do it to avoid killing Tundra sales, and I agree there will always be a vocal minority that want more more more power (like the goobs who want the 5.7L in the Taco), but I think the 4.6L would provide tangible benefits to enough customers that it could be a profitable move for Toyota.

Again, not *necessary* (especially not at the Tacoma's current sales volumes), but not a waste.

Yeah this is exactly what kept us from getting a Tundra. The V6 has more than enough power...i just wish we had a turbo diesel option :(

How do you get "not happy with the current Tacoma" from "a V8 as an option wouldn't be a bad thing"?

Putting words in people's mouths isn't polite.

a V8 would be sweet. i think the 5.7L is overkill, but id love to have a go with the 4.6L, the 3.0L Turbo Diesel wouldnt hurt either

i think something akin to the 1st gens would be awesome especially with a diesel. somewhat smaller than the current tacos. my only complaints of my truck is that it would need to fit a 6'2 person a little more comfortable and have more leg height so i can sit in it with my legs at 90 degrees

I am 6'3 and in my 07 I move the seat forward to be comfortable. The bucket seat in the regular cab goes way back and can still recline further back. It goes so far back it is almost hard to reach the steering wheel with it telescoped all the way out.

I'd have to go with other...

A small block Ford V8. Either the 4.6 or the 5.0.

Ford small block V8 is a real nice motor...AND, has the sweetest exhaust note in the business.
