I like the 4.6 because that would make a mean street machine or even the new 4.0 that's in the 4-runner.

I'd also like to see a turbocharged 2.7L. I think a little more torque would be nice and I think the Japanese make killer small engines with turbos. It would be nice to have that power there without burning mpgs all of the time.

Factory supercharge the 2.7. Tougher than a bag of hammers, good fuel economy, and decent power. Considering gas prices are too high as it is...let alone $5.00 a gallon!!!!

Not saying I would necessarily get one, but I think it would be cool of they had a diesel option... who's with me on that?

    I'd vote for a standard V6 270 hp Dual VVT-i found in the 4Runner...

But optional 4.7 from the Tundra/4Runner.. Or even better 4.7 from the Lexus :)

A V8 would overlap too much with the Tundra and cut into sales. Toyota has no incentive to do it.

A vehicle like the Dodge Dakota had a V8 option because of its size and weight. The V6 on the Dakota was underpowered. The Dakota was always really a fullsize truck disgusied as a compact by the marketing departments. It was never a true mid/compact by any stretch, even though it is labeled as such. It may have been smaller than the Ram but it's weight and build were fullsize territory. The mileage also always sucked. People eventually figured out it wasn't a compact and even gets worse fuel economy at times than some Ram trims.

I think the tacoma engine options are just about right for a midsize. Toyota knows those wanting more wil go fullsize, like they should. Bigger engines negates the main reason many people go mid/compact--fuel economy. A lot of people would not buy the V8 option on the tacoma and it would not be worth the effort for Toyota to do it.

I would like to see them leave the Tacoma alone powertrain wise and add more available "luxury" items that other models get. A leather option,turns/puddles/heat in the mirrors,an HUD would be nice. I don't see a Tacoma as a heavy towing vehicle. light stuff sure..but if you're maxed out on the Taco's limits for towing ,time to think about a full sized truck. Would a small V8 be nice ? I'm an auto enthusiast,so sure it would ! Is it necessary ? Nope. Toyota wouldn't see enough return on investment to make it an option. And with all the govt regs going into place in the next decade they're going to look for more fuel efficiency and less emissions. Not the path of a V8.
