Meaning they couldn't find anything, dealers nowadays just want to change oil and scam with extra services, I know this topic is confusing due the engine that we have but there's no doubt that the knock I hear is different from the regular direct injection system.

Is pinging the crackle/chug sound you hear sometimes when you blip the throttle.

if you don't reset the learned values it takes seemingly forever for it to adapt back. like 5 tanks or more. at least in my experience. no soot on my tailpipe.

If you are serious about fixing knocking, get the tune. Otherwise, get obd2 apps to monitor the engine to find out that it pings on premium at certain conditons

Usually after trying 92 octane, and going back to 87, 2-3 tankfuls the truck will run normal again. As far the tail pipe tip, that takes longer for the light grayish color to get back. Even when I fuel up with ethanol free 87 regular when up in Vermont, coming back the truck runs great.
