Hoping someone has heard this before and can save me some time. It almost sounds like a loud rattle snake. It occurs when letting off accelerator or light acceleration, also around turns under light acceleration/deceleration. Seems to me like it's coming from the belt. I thought it was the tensioner at first so I replaced the bearing only and a new belt. Also, hit the tensioner with air and WD because some have mentioned this helps rid the dust and debris. None of it has helped and it's progressing. It's a 4.0 automatic 2wd with 142k miles.

Here's a video, excuse all the external mic noise:

Audio is not good enough for us to really know anything but might be your power steering pump. Check the power steering reservoir and consider doing a fluid swap (pretty easy job all things considered). Check the condition of your belt too.

You can rule out the other idler pulleys by starting it for a short duration with the belt off.

For some reason, this gave me flash backs. Driving a 70 nova with messed up motor mounts. If you gunned it too much from a stop, the engine would jump out of place, the fan would scrape the shroud, and the throttle cable would get yanked causing it to be floored. Made for a few interesting experiences.

I agree with wi taco, check power steering. Might just be low fluid. Power steering noise could be described as a loud rattle snake.

Try another video, not driving, engine running, turn the steering wheel until it stops, then back the other way until it stops.

Check for a loose skid plate. Also, the u-joints, and support bearing, even if it sounds like the noise is coming from the engine bay. (I cant hear the audio on my cell.)
