I'm replacing my 3.4L 5VZ-FE engine in my 2002 Tacoma which blew a connecting rod and considering going with a JDM. I'm looking for some definitive answers of what can be utilized from the JDM and what must be swapped from the original engine. I have already removed the original engine leaving the entire wiring harness inside the engine bay for reuse with the new engine. I believe I have a fairly definitive list of what can be used from the JDM and what must be swapped from the original engine, but would like feedback from anyone who has done a JDM replacement.

According to my research so far the following need to be swapped from the original engine to the JDM replacement:
    • Intake
    • Fuel injectors
    • Exhaust manifold
    • Motor mounts
    • Oil pan
Parts which I don't have a definitive answer regarding whether or not they can be used from the JDM :
    • Alternator
    • P/S Pump
    • A/C Compressor
    • Oil sump/pickup tube
    • Pulleys
    Item that require modification:
    • Move oil filter to front of block and install oil cooler to back location (original oil filter location on JDM)
    Have I missed anything?

Also is swapping the oil pan do you also have to swap the Oil sump/pick up tube?

For those who have gone with a JDM did that have any problems other than swapping the parts above? Anyone have any long term success with JDM engines?

    Appreciate the feedback.

Did you go with the JDM engine? Why can't the injectors on the JDM engine be used?
