I mention it because low engine power can be a cause of low stall speed.

Honestly it feels like it is sitting neutral then revs up to match the appropriate speed before going into gear to avoid lurching/slamming into gear. I used to have a manual transmission in a different car and I would do the same thing. I have never felt like the truck was about to stall, but I may not be understanding what you are getting at.

Could it have anything to do with traction control? I've been in vehicles with traction control that drive me crazy, you pull out starting on ice in a parking lot, you're then on dry pavement and can't get any power to the wheels, super dangerous.

Happened in ECT too, but revved a bit higher. That indicates that this is a programming characteristic of the transmission. The power is there and I have never felt like stalling was an issue, seems like a programming thing. I haven't had an automatic for several years, but it kinda makes sense to me especially if the goal is smoother shifting.

I'm the OP for this thread and want to report back. Had my truck in to the dealer yesterday for its 15K ToyotaCare checkup. This issue was on my list of things to address beyond the planned tire rotation and the various inspections that come with this free service. So, the service rep suggested that their tech could take the truck on a test drive to see if he could replicate the problem. I explained that since it had happened to me only 3 or 4 times in 6 to 8 weeks of driving, it was unlikely to manifest in a 5 minute test drive by the tech. Service rep agreed and said they would check my transmission fluid level and make sure all the TSB's had been completed for my truck.

Computer-checked the transmission fluid -- fine; all TSB's completed. I had the rep flag my concern as a safety issue, which she was reluctant to do, but did at my insistence. I'll continue to monitor for this problem. If it reoccurs, will probably escalate the concern to corporate.

Using techstream to check the transmission fluid level on a 3rd gen auto is not accurate. Transmission needs to be checked manually. Check out the giant transmission thread on this. Just an FYI!

OP, listen to @gearcruncher, he knows Toyota transmissions like the palm of his hand.

Before you go and waste time, ask the dealer to give you a heavily discounted trasmission FLUSH.
That way they can clear and refill to the correct level.

Or you can do it yourself and save yourself the headache.
Which ever the case, the issue that you claim to have is a clear symptom of Low ATF.
The Computer on this truck won't mark low ATF untill you are practicly dry.

I've read that on TW. Problem is the dealership wants to take the easy road with TechStream. If the problem reoccurs, I plan to take truck to my preferred shop and have them check the fluid levels and all the other things that 3rd Gen owners have found problematic coming out of the factory. If the problem doesn't reoccur, I still plan to take the truck to the shop for all of these things. I've got a relationship with the GM of the dealership and think I can count on him to make things right if I find problems that should have been handled during the $25K ToyotaCare period.

Just out of curiosity... have you all had the TSB done for the update? Mine was having issues with the transmission not engaging and the dealership local to me had a TSB. They did an update that fixed the issue. Mine wasn't exactly the same though- just a thought.

Fortunately it hasn't happened to my truck since my original posting. Maybe it fixed itself???!!! Knock on wood.

Had my truck in for other things last week, and asked about TSB for transmission -was told there wasn't one! Got my truck last August.

The TSB would only be for the 2016, by mid-year the'16 were fixed from factory. Mine was one of the first to be delivered,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Lesson learned,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

My truck when going around 30 - 40 mph with foot off the gas coasting around a corner then I hit the gas and truck rev up like in neutral release gas and hit gas again and all normal . Only happened maybe 5 times . Dealer said truck had stored p261093 and they did a 0013-19 software update today . Hope it's fixed now .
