I recently purchased a 2013 "Certified" Toyota Taco TRD Off Road (41k) from a local dealer.

I finally get it home and started poking around the engine bay to learn my way around. To my dismay I have found a decent amount of oxidation/corrosion covering the entire engine, along with bits of surface (hopefully) rust here and there, and some parts completely covered with rust. I've never seen a car look like this especially at 2 years of age, but then again this is my first truck. My 2002 Lexus IS300 engine is much cleaner in comparison.

Is this a big deal or something I should worry about? I thought the Tacomas were only known for frame rust, which I looked for and only found a minimal "normal" amount of... We've had a lot of rain here in Houston the last few weeks, could this be something from just sitting on the lot or an indicator of something bad?

    Thanks in advance.

(Hard to see the oxidation on the head, but it's covered in it)

Nothing I'd be worried about. If it makes you feel any better my entire block and anything attached to it is just nothing but rust. Even very light scaling here and there, granted mines on 03 but regardless. I think it'd take quite a while for rust around your area to affect anything seriously. Just looks like light surface rust. But putting some fluid film or similar on stuff that doesn't get too hot wouldn't hurt. Reeks if you get it on your exhaust by accident just as a disclaimer. I did that 6 months ago and still smell it from time to time.

I plan to ask the Toyota techs about this and how "normal" it is based on the trucks they see everyday. I'm also having issues with the rear locker not engaging, but that's a whole different issue... pretty sure that it's seized up from lack of usage. Thanks for the feedback.
