So, I have purchased an engine from a salvage yard and have a suspicion that it may not have come from the vehicle listed. Does anyone know if you can cross reference the engine serial number with the vin? Perhaps a call to Toyota will disclose. Reason is, I'm guessing the scrap yard is selling a motor with higher mileage than described on the quoted donor vehicle.

Hearsay knowledge I have gained from TV car shows. The last 6 digits of the VIN should be the same as the SN stamped on the engine. However this does not mean the engine was not replaced. YMMV

in AZ Department of public safety (Highway patrol / DPS) does inspections and can inform you if said engine was married to a specific vehicle. Reach out to your vehicle theft police section of your town and ask some questions on what can be done.. they should be able to confirm if the E.I.N is married to the V.I.N
