Got an oil change on August 10. Drive about 1000 miles. Engine seized on August 21 after about 5 hours of near continuous driving (road trip).

Never saw smoke. No evidence the oil leaked out (undercarriage was clean). Never overheated. Oil light never went on.

    What happened?

    Me again.

Then what happened to the oil? There was none in the truck 11 days later.

Did the engine seize? Or does it crank without sounding like a tractor

Double gasketed oil filters happen more than you'd think. Not the 1st engine blown by a quicky change shop.

A CPO VW I bought took about 100 miles to leak from a oil drain bolt and get all over the exhaust/make smoke. Had about 1 thread left before dropping out.

I went to Jiffy Lube. I know, shoot me. Never again.

Video of the service visit says they put oil in it. Receipt says 5.5 quarts of Ken GT-1 Blend OW20 SP/GP6A.

We were on the interstate, going about 80mph and heard what sounded like a pinball crashing around the engine compartment. All the dashboard lights wrnt on. Pulled over. Turned it off. Tried to start it again a few minutes later and the crashing pinball noise returned.

Had it towed to a trusted mechanic, who said it was "bone dry" (no oil at all) and the undercarriage was clean and oil pan cap in place, so it didn't leak out.

    Thoughts?

What does this mean? Explain like I'm five.

I have video of the service. Is there anything in it I can look for that would explain what happened?

11 days between the oil change and the engine failure, or 11 days between engine failure and the mechanic looking at it?

Always check others work or do it yourself and check!
Guessing it had a leak and ran without oil!
    Sucks this happened to you!
The place that did your oil will deny it was their fault.

Mechanic says the oil did NOT leak out. Undercarriage was clean and there is no evidence of oil leak anywhere it was parked for those 11 days.

Figured this was the 3rd gen thread. Oil on a 2nd is pretty damn straight forward. Sorry to hear this, but sounds like they never put oil in from my desk.

Video says they put oil in -- at least, I can see a guy connecting a tube to somewhere in the center of the engine block and holding it there for a couple of minutes. They also supposedly perform an oil pressure check and they check the dipstick after the hose is disconnected.

Unless they're Oscar-level actors, I think the did put oil in the truck.

Maybe the oil reservoir they were "pumping from" was empty? Any recorded results of the pressure check? Eating 5qts of oil in 1k miles with no sign of dispersion is a red flag IMO.

No recorded results of the pressure check on my paperwork.

What could possibly cause that much brand new oil to disappear without smoke, overheating or leak???

I can't see it lasting 1000 miles without some oil in it, but strange things do happen.
