Wow this thread went to shit in a hurry. Was gonna say more but what do I know. 83k miles on my truck in a year. Two continents. It’s summer where I am. No issues. All stock but 33’s. According to most on here I needed to build a truck to go all over Canada Alaska and all three Americas. Nope just bought one, broke it in till 6800 miles and left April 2nd.

My truck is almost a running contradiction to what you read on here. But wait there are thousands upon thousands more out there that run with no issues that you don’t hear about on here or any other forum.

I guess I need to accept the fact that my truck is an absolute piece of shit according to TW and just roll it off a cliff in Patagonia somewhere.

That’s ok. Even if my truck dies tomorrow, I have my sight, hearing, arms, legs, and a rucksack. I’ll walk home and still be fucking happy and positive about life, nature, and being alive. Getting pissed off over a truck….nah not gonna happen.

Happy New Years to all. If you drink good bourbon raise one up. I’ll smell it down here. That shipment got stopped at customs in Chile. Bastards. lol. That’s worth getting upset over.

    @Vlady

Had that stuff back in 97 when I was stationed at the embassy in Santiago. Not bad in small amounts but one thing led to another and a little became way too much. Was so sick the next morning I had to get drunk again just to make it through the day. No more for me.
Hard life but someone had to do it.

Never had a problem at steep angles with my old 1968 M38A1 Jeep . With overall low range at 123.1:1 and Detroit locker in both axles it was unstoppable . Even back in the early 90's I had fun climbing the seven waterfalls in Surprise canyon that led up to Panamint city , That trail was closed in 2001

This is my Jeep climbing up a steep incline in the East County of San Diego. The inclinometer on my dash was reading near 40 deg

Thousands of Tacomas go through extreme inclines all over North America, especially western US every day, I think if it was a systematic issue there would be a new post here every weekend.

No wet sump system is going to be happy at extreme angles for a long period of time, perhaps the 2GR is more on the sensitive side and requires a little more attention.

This issue is always on the back of my mind at any steep angle I come across. I try to do them as quick as possible and I will not let the truck idle at any steepish angle side to side or back to back. I just shut it off and wait.

Without doing a bunch of research, I always thought the issue came from the direction of the engine. The 2GR was built for a front wheel drive where it would sit left to right. Where as in the Taco it sits front to back. I found it interesting that the intake manifold does not sit in the center of the engine, its off to the driver. Do not go looking for this too deeply if you have any amount OCD. Obviously I have not seen or worked on every V6 or V8 out there so there may be some exceptions, but for the most part Vs built for rear wheel drive will have the manifold down the center to create equal length runners.

For what it’s worth, I drive my truck up and down 20+ degree slopes many times a year and the one time I had an oil starvation issue was when I was idling on a 20 degree side slope for 15m or so. Once I started moving again, the oil light turned off.

It was not an ideal situation, but I had little other choice as I was alone and had to go forward to get off the trail. The trail was named “hug the bank”.

I've been in those same situations and never had any problem like I had said previously it's only happened up hill never down hill or major degree on the drivers side

Well this thread derailed a bit, but I had a similar issue just now. I was in 2wd going up my driveway on a steep incline and started to slip on some ice. I gave some gas for a second and spun the tires. Then the “low oil pressure” light came on and engine shut off. Then “check charging system” light came on - I cleared that message, and the screen then said to hold brake and push to start.

So by this time I had rolled to the bottom of my driveway - I restarted the truck and all lights were gone. I hit the block and went up the driveway with more speed and parked fine.

Anything to worry about? This just a safety mechanism on the truck? I literally stalled in the driveway and spun tires for about 1 second before this occurred.

Honestly I've put about 20k miles on the truck since this happened and I haven't had a issue since but I also haven't put my self in that situation since. I'm going to assume it's just a safety feature to keep from causing any internal damage. Dealer always says they have no solution or I'm not sure what could cause that since there isn't a code avaliable. That's why I just go by what some of the gents on here bring up

One can never have too many light bars.
This is the reason I only off road in Porsche 911's. Dry sump lubrication FTW.
