Ok you need to put it in gear your rolling along at 70 mph ops I just let the clutch out in first, wonder why the tires are smoking and the tack is reading 6 grand? Far better control on the down grade is another. Buy the way modern vehicles supply no fuel foot off the gas.

Another one. Its illegal in several if not more states, just look it up. Although how you would actually get caught doing it is another matter

How is that possible? 6th is right and aft. If we're getting weird, 2nd is good for 76mph at my 7,250rpm redline. The engine has been tested to 7,400rpm, which is 77mph.

The most likely scenario is jamming it into 3rd, which is a sedate 4,370rpm at 70.

Most likely, it is a tack on for other violations. Someone fades the brakes, it could be said that they were driving in neutral. More likely on the commercial side.

In a serious enough situation, the Event Data Recorder could reveal what was the state of operation.

Fun indeed, but if we're talking about Bourbon County, Kentucky, it is definitely NOT a dry county.

Coasting down I-70 off the continental divide, might be irresponsible, but just going down a hill out of gear shouldn't count as such.

Maybe the computer freaked out that it wasn't making the truck go 70mph, yet it was....

i am going off topic here!!!, but why did the engine shut down is the question. down hill on mountain roads the engine shuts off, no power steering or power brakes. WTF. that should not happen.

All cars with vacuum boost will get once decent stop out of the brakes when the engine is off, as long as the booster is good to go. If the booster is going out, you'd know it even with the engine running. Annnnnnd, my wife drove our car that had a blown PS rack for 3mo while pregnant as she was more comfortable in it compared to our other car. That was a weird time, but I learned not to argue when the oven is On.

I am not 100% sure what would happen on an OR or Pro with the electric booster, but I assume it runs nicely off the battery.

Gonna have to try that in an empty parking lot someday out of curiosity to see how these electric brake boosters react.

You can do it in your driveway. Just coast a few feet, or not, and pump the brakes. Now, move slightly and try them again to see what happens. Like you probably know in a vacuum assist vehicle, the brakes will be hard as a rock with little there to slow / stop you.

I get this a lot as I often coast the cars around the garage / driveway with the engine Off.

I'm guessing the ORs / Pros will feel pretty much normal.

Of course, for anyone trying this, remember the parking brake is there. ;)

    Safety 3rd!
