I know some will doubt, but it does seem to be a little smoother. Previously, I added to thread where I could feel a slight buzz/roughness accelerating through 2k rpm. Whether that was engine, exhaust resonance, or whatever is hard to say. But, after focusing some accel/decel cycles in the 2k-4k rpm range (3rd gear limit) for the last couple hundred miles, this seems to have smoothed out. Now, I can accelerate right through this rpm range and what I noticed before is nearly gone. Engines do continue to "break-in" for several thousand miles; although just negligibly after the first few hundred. In summary, give your engine a few thousand miles before passing judgement. I'm liking this one so far. Not the torque monster my full size Ford diesel was, but it suites my current driving style and occasional light tow.

Maybe the motor/trans mounts have softened up? In one of my other car forums, many folks have noted that their harder, aftermarket engine mounts were very harsh at first and then softened up with use. Now, those were urethane and I don't know what Toyota is using, but it would be an viable explanation.

Some quotes from Miata.net. Again, these refer to aftermarket urethane mounts, but it seems reasonable that it could apply to new mounts depending on the material:

    * As a quick follow up and since I've now put about 250 miles on the new motor mounts... Also the "harsh" rattle at idle that was very present when I 1st installed the mounts has subsided, and although I as well as my wife are aware of the difference in feel between stock mounts and the 70 Durometer aftermarket ones, it is not that bad and worth it IMO to have the better mounts to protect my transmission from my own abuse...

    * My AWR 70 mounts settled in after about 800 miles. Vibs at idle now are clearly 50% (minimum) less intense then when new.

    * I now have 600 miles since the install and the initial "rough vibrations" have definitely settled down some.

    * Fresh after install there wasnt any hood rattle. 50 miles in, I had hood rattle.
Now 200 miles in, hood rattle disappeared.
