    Why do our engines sound like diesels. Is it the Atkinson cycle?

    It's the direct injection. Most modern motors have switched to this.

    The 3.5 actually uses Direct Injection in combination with Port Injection. It has 12 injectors. Still no issues have arrisen with the systems except for noise.
