Are these all junk and just a consumable item that needs replacing?

I got a couple years outta the stock ones, then bought some that covered more and fit real nice but I maybe got 6 months outta those.

What does everyone use for replacements? Just buy cheap and keep replacing?

Mine are fine, the little plastic retainers get replaced occasionally.

What's wrong with yours, are they ripping or something?

I just installed the ARK tri poly plastic ones not long ago after trying some cheap aftermarket ones. they fit really nice and secure. Wanted a material that doesn’t swell up with the Krown rust spray. Good coverage too. I’m picky with stuff like this, and I think they will hold up. Already handled plenty of off road and dirt roads and Havnt loosened up. Clips they came with are decent.

Damn for what those options both cost I could make 5 sets with the mat I used from home depot lol. I guess those save you some time and hassle. Didn't know aftermarket solutions existed but man those are pricey.

Highly recommend you go diy for something as simple as this. If you’re redoing the entire fender liner I could see using an aftermarket solution like the one offered from c4.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-2nd-gen-engine-bay-splash-guard-rock-guards-template.621635/

$30 in supplies, maybe an hour of fiddling to get everything dialed, and used the left over mat to make shock guards for the rears.

I used a set of full size liners sold by a member here as templates when they wore out and cut a new set from diamond plate-patterned rubber mat from Home Depot. +10 HP, and this DIY set has been the best so far. I have a lot left over for future sets, too, and it was cheap. I haven't needed to yet, but rivnutting the clip holes and bolting it in with fender washers is also an option that I'm keeping in my back pocket if the stupid plastic clips start failing.

That's what I recommend given the terrible OEMs and expensive aftermarket options.

I made my own using the template from here, cut from 1/8 epdm sheet.

The stock ones absorbed a bunch of undercoating and swelled up, and started rubbing while at full lock.

Funny you mention that. My rear ones swelled up, but i just used a tie wrap. Works great, and you don't notice it.
And I wouldn't stop using Krown rustproofing, as that has saved my vehicles for the last almost 30 years. :spending:

Hah I already had to do that a year or two ago on both sides. They were rubbing on the tires over bumps lol.

Krown is a must every fall! My father has a 2012 with no rust anywhere under it thanks to yearly coatings since new. It’s nice having everything come apart easy when needed as well. Only downside is certain flexible materials swell up over time. I do my best to clean them after every application.IMG_6472.jpg
