Anyone know why engine splash guards are rubber and not something more durable?

Rubber is pretty durable. Tires are rubber. Why ask this? Also, that's an easily accessible area for maintenance/repairs. Would you like to have a solid piece you remove fully? Or a flap you can fold over with some plastic tab removal? You should be asking about the coverage though.

I ask because I go through so many splash guards they rip and fall off, do one piece splash guards hold up better? If so where can I get them

@cnote4l can help you out. I have a solid set on my 2nd gen with the extended clips, no problems at all. My other ones ripped and were shredded.

    See here:

    Good luck.

You can get them through any OEM vendor/dealership with correct part number. I remember seeing an upgraded one through a private vendor here on TW. I'll see if I can pull it up and find it. Looked like it had alot more coverage. And thinking back I can relate because I've ran over a shorter fence post that was hidden and that crawled all the way up and ripped the rubber off the tabs. Not even a plastic solid splash guard would have sufficed. Might have cause even more damage that way. I Just considered that a fluke thing though and not a reason to upgrade or buy some spares. How many have you guys gone through?
