Engine Stalled on The Highway

Did this. It came back as an EGR code, but that can't be since the EGR, along with the fuel pump, and MAF were all just replaced this past November. It also showed a code for the catalytic converter, which was expected because there is no Cat on the truck.

I'm going to take it to a shop today to get a more detailed diagnostic to find out if it may be a bad ECM

 

that would drive me batshit crazy. I hate mystery intermittent issues.

 

It does because I can never fully trust it. I thought I solved the problem back in Nov, but it has reared its head again. After all that's been replaced, I'm not sure what's left.

 

when was the last time the plugs or coils were changed?

i know of some toyota fr-s owners that had heat-soak issues with the stock coils on race tracks, where they'd be running hard and the car would just die part way through the track. normally in hotter climates, where engine temps are higher and in the slower sections of the track where air flow coming through the grille is the least.

 

Fuel filter changed?

 

I would second this. Ignition coils heat soaked. Took them cooling off and they're a ok again. If you can get it to act up again, I would check for spark

As far as I can calculate? If my rough math is correct, about 15k miles in long-distance driving, plus about another 35k miles driving back and forth to work every day since 2018, so I'd say an estimated 45 - 50k miles.

ah, i replied too quickly.

i know my 2014 brz and 2018 tacoma have a similar schedule of 60k plug changes(they're also both newer direct-injection motors that yours isn't), so you might actually be coming due on plugs and coils again.

or at the very least, you could have a coil starting to go halfway through a 100k change cycle, which isn't all that uncommon either.

 

There is no smog test in NM and MS. (Actually, there is no vehicle inspection at all in either state) I never changed my plates for the two years I lived in New York, and they never said anything during inspections in Hawaii.
