    These days, it'll probably take less time for Amazon to ship a code reader to you than to drive down to the store and have them do it, lol

    No, we were going to keep it because we still use it for camping trips for just us two. Not sure what else to say.

    @psu75 I've skimmed through the thread but wanted to touch on this as I've read up on some of this.

    It could be one of the sensors (although it should show codes for it). check all the connections on the TB, make sure to unplug the APPS (front sensor) and the TPS (rear sensor) and see if any corrosion on pins or contacts. worth a shot. Limp mode is basically the ECM not receiving the correct parameters from the process of "hitting the gas" and thinking something is wrong.

    the way it usually works (paraphrase of course):

    push pedal -> APPS reads -> sends data to ECM -> ECM send command to TB motor -> ECM asks TPS to report back, are we "all good"? -> TPS gives a thumbs up -> happy go lucky

    all within .000673 seconds :D

    This is extremely helpful. I've ordered the FIXD tool which arrives on Friday. In the meantime, I will do some Googling to find out how to do the troubleshooting steps you mentioned.

    I have debated the same thing in the past but.... The 1st gen Tacoma is one of the easiest vehicles I have ever worked on. It almost reminds me of working on my Suzuki DR650. Just dead simple and I can save a ton of money tearing it apart in the garage (or driveway). I just can't get rid of this ol' bitch. lol

    just be advised, the simple Bluetooth devices can't always see everything. mine can read codes and some sensors but most is beyond the scope of the simple plug-in ones

    Ahhh! I have a DR200!! My father in law has the 650. Awesome bikes...except right now my 200 isn't getting gas for some reason. Pulled fuel line, checked air filter, etc. Guess I'm going to have to pull the carb :rant: But that's a story for a different forum (ADV).

    Roger that. If nothing shows up, I'll bite the bullet and take it Toyota or Bert's.

    @psu75 When it went into limp mode did you notice the ABS light come on as well? If so It may be the p0333 or p0334 knock sensor code. If it gets cold at night you may get small rodents sleeping in-between the cylinder heads and they love to chew on the knock censor wires.

    Take a look under the intake manifold if you can, look for signs of creatures, that also may help you track down the problem.

    @psu75

    One other suggestion, you may want to either change the name of your thread, or start a new one with something like "Engine Stops Responding and Throttle Gets Tight, Ideas?". Some of the folks who have good diagnostic experience may not look at your thread thinking you are only looking for advice about selling.

    I'm a little late, but what area in Texas are you in? You could always ask around in the Texas section of TacomaWorld and see if someone can recommend a mechanic. I know of a couple in Houston that I'd definitely recommend, and I'm sure plenty of other folks know of some trusted and reliable shops. If nothing else maybe you could call into one and see if they give you any suggestions on where to start looking.

    Either way, good luck!
