Hello TW new member here with a problem with my 04 Taco v6. I have a weird problem with my truck only after refueling it,the engine will idle rough and stall out>ONLY AFTER REFUELING,not any other time. No CEL lights either,I have done some online searching and it seems to be my Charcoal Filter in the EVAP system>yes I do top off the gas tank since buying the truck new:eek: not anymore. Has anyone else had this problem and how was it resolved,Ive contacted some mechanics and they tell me if it is the Charcoal Canister then the gas tank or the bed will have to be removed in order to replace it:eek: big bucks. Ive looked online and the canister can be bought for $255.00 delivered OEM. Can this part be put in without removing all that stuff by myself? I have peeked inside the area it looks as if you remove the spare tire that you should be able to remove the canister? Has anyone here ever removed the canister and could you give me the 411 on how I could do it myself or have any other ideas what this problem could be. Thanks and glad to be a new Member at TW.

I have the same problem. My truck does not stall though, it's just tough to start immediately after refueling and runs a little rough for a minute or two, then it's fine. My CEL is on and is throwing codes for the evap system. I haven't had time to start messing around with it so I've just been letting the truck run while filling up  When I do finally fix my evap issues, I gotta believe the problem will go away.

You have unfortunately learned the lesson that I always tell all of my customers. NEVER ever top off the fuel tank. It causes the charcoal canister to become saturated in fuel, and causes the problems that you are dealing with. As for replacing it, it is not that difficult. Removing the driveshaft will make accessing it much easier. You may need to lower the fuel tank some to gain access to the mounting and vapor line connections. It is not an EASY job, but it is a DOABLE job.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with the Charcoal Canister. I had this EXACT problem, I would refuel and right after refueling I would start the engine and it would stutter and act like it didn't want to start. I took it in immediately to the dealer to have it checked out under warranty.

Turns out the problem is related to some kind of sensor that regulates the amount of fuel entering the engine up near the radiator. Sorry I forgot the name, but I'll dig through my receipts and try and find it. I believe the cost to replace it was right around $250 out of warranty. After they replaced the sensor I never had that problem again.

You may be right, but I would not arbitrarily just rule out someone else suggestion either. I have seen a large number of canisters get supersaturated with fuel because customers would top off their tanks, which is a bad thing. Not trying to rule your option out either of course, just saying all options are viable ones.

I wonder if the are referring to the fuel pressure regulator? Not really a sensor, though. On my 2.7, its bolted to the front of the fuel rail, not far from the radiator. Very easy to replace (after safely relieving the pressure first  ) .
