These are the guys I used:
    https://www.yotashop.com/
They are very pricey in camparision to other engine suppliers/remanufacturing but I was thoroughly impressed with the motor I have received. I have been warned about "Brand New Blocks" that originate from china and are far inferior than the Japanese counterparts. I ordered my engine as a "Dressed long block" and pretty much came as a plug and play unit. I did have to put on all the brackets, aux systems as usual but did not have to delve into the "guts" themselves. This was fun actually.
    1.jpg
It came in a very big and heavy box, went straight from the semi to the back of my truck.
    2.jpg
Ordered a new AISIN clutch, flywheel as well
    3.jpg
    Mmmmm, that new engine smell.
    4.jpg
    Wrapped that rascal.
    5.jpg
That's the last drop of oil you spill on my floor, you dirty bastard.
    6.jpg
I did crate up the old engine and sent it back for my core charge. I called the shop prior to shipment and they sent me a freight ticket and address where the crate is supposed to be dropped off at.
    7.jpg
Taped over the inlets and exhaust to keep the crap out. Started bolting on the externals.
    8.jpg
    Mock up going very smoothly.
    9.jpg
I did remove the fan clutch prior to installation, only did this for picture purposes....just looks like it wants to fly :)
    10.jpg
    11.jpg

That's pretty much it in a nutshell....or should I say in a Tacoma. As stated before this was probably the more expensive route to take but from start to finish it was a no muss or fuss ordeal. Yes, there were a couple of hick ups along the way but nothing I could not figure our or ask the fine folks here on the Tacoma World forums.

For the price of new I contemplate just going for the yotashop 5VZ. They seem to have a pretty good reputation.

I'm thinking about buying a new one off of toyotatruckengine. What made you go with the other route? What gaskets did you need to transfer everything over?

Hi, Did you or anyone have experience with toyotatruckengine.com? The cam shaft has broken on my 04 Tacoma and I am considering them. I live in Glenwood Springs. Thanks, Bob SkiBob

2004 Tacoma with 180,000 miles. I bought it a year ago and have driven it less than 3000 miles. I am wondering about toyotatuckengine.com in Colorado Springs?

Not sure - maybe just to get one. It's either that or find a low mileage donor engine. Already rebuilt the R150 trans so why not go all out and do the engine too :) I have 200K on my current engine. Runs great with no issues right now. Just looking into the future of how long I am going to keep my 1st gen. Kind of want it to stick around for a while I think.

I ended up ordering a rebuilt engine from Yota1. I haven’t got it yet.

Engine should be here Thursday. I’ll get picks of it then.

I went with jdm(Japanese domestic market) these motors apparently get pulled around 50-60k In Japan because the emissions their are stricter after those mileages. I got mine for 1750. It’s been about 5k now still good so. So far I say it’s fair. You get 90 days warranty so. You can even get a compression check if you want
