I am replacing the engine in my 05 with an engine from a 15. It looks like I am going to be getting the full wiring harness. I was told that I would have to swap out the oil pans and use my original manifolds. I know that it can't be that easy what am I missing? It is the 4.0.

I am curious what the answer is. I'm sure there must be some considerations related to the emissions nonsense on a 2015 engine vs 2005 engine.

With apologies not sure who to tag in here @Torspd maybe? Anyway I was recently reading a similar thread and iirc the newer ecu would be needed also. Op, I’d google “05-15 Tacoma engine swap Tacomaworld” and start reading.

As long as the 15 is from a Tacoma, then you don't need the full harness. Unless you just want a newer one. The '05 ecu won't run the SAIS system of the 2015 Tacoma.

Basically this is what you need to do. Take your engine out. Look at what differences there are, and swap those parts onto the 2015 engine. There aren't many. Then install the 2015 engine into your truck. Drive and enjoy.

We have a saying in the performance and tuning section. "Always trust in @Torspd" - since he has the most modified 1grfe in the entire world.

Actually I don't think that's a saying, I just made that up on the spot. But the sentiment stands.

Torspd I sent you a message. I was thinking that I would be taking parts off the 05 and putting on the 15s engine block.
