Thinking about swapping the engine in my 1997 3.4 v6, I want a moderate power boost without completely sacrificing economy. What have you guys done in the past? My budget is about 1500 bucks.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
you probably wont get much for 1500, but there is always the 2jz swap, 1uz swap... etc etc, but cost is usually pretty high unless you do your own wiring and fabrication

Supercharger. I've seen a couple on Craigslist for $700 or less lately get posted up on here. Sending it in to get a complete rebuild is another $900. If you're patient enough you can find a deal that lets you do the whole thing with fuel mods and even meth injection for around $3500. You'll have to have a parts pile for awhile with a budget like you mentioned. If you find a cheap sc and it can be rebuilt by you (impeller coating is in usable condition etc.) you can do it for even less. Unfortunately you're going to have little luck doing a swap for $1500 unless you get all the parts out of a donor vehicle and can swap in the computer and make custom engine and transmission mounts yourself. If you could do that I'm pretty sure you'd already be done your project. Here's a few engine swap threads. I'd seriously consider the sc though - over time with the right mods you can be making 300 rwhp.

And a 300 rwhp supercharged taco with otherwise stock v6 with over 500k miles (450k of that on the original engine)

    And another supercharged build:

All the sc info you could ever want:

prefabricated swap kits for ls engines and 2jzs can be bought from cxracing.

    haven't considered boosting the 3.4?

either way your budget is low.
