Bought my 2005 Taco SR5 4ltr 6cyl 4x4 DCLB used in January. She's got 154k on her and has been dealership maintained her whole life, and I've got very little to complain about. I've been taking good care of her (front/rear diff flush, new steering rack, steering pump, plugs, oil changes etc.) But I can't seem to get rid of this ticking sound she makes when I give her gas. It's pretty faint, but it's like there's a baseball card clipped to my bicycle tire spokes kind of tick. Mechanic said a fresh oil change should fix it. He was wrong.

I want my Taco to last another 100k+ miles. What is my fix??

Search the PCV washer DIY and see if that is what you're hearing. Common on these trucks and it's not anything failing.

Can't find that DIY but I'm new to this group and I'm still navigating the forums.

When you say PCV "washer" are you referring to a grommet? Because I don't think mine has one. Just a hose and the valve. I'll replace them all the same and see if that helps..

These engines tick all the time (valve lifters, injectors, idk), but if it is indeed only when you give it gas then it might be engine ping. It's very common with these engines (mine does it). A quick search on TW will yield many pages devoted to it. While pinging can be very bad for some engines (namely turbo-charged), I have yet to experience or hear of any issues because of it for Tacomas. A quick way to check is to fill it with high-octane gas, which should reduce or eliminate it. Then go back to buying cheap gas and turning your radio up
