Need some help here if y’all wouldn’t mind.

Just got back from a 2,000 mile trip and on my post journey inspection, heard a new ticking noise. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Engine has 80,000 miles, timing belt and water pump done at 54,000. New plugs and wires 6 months ago. New belt set last week.

    Video below. Thanks!!

Thank you for the quick response. Is there a standard fix for it such as some cleaner or additive that should be run through it, or does it need to be dropped off at the shop to have the valves serviced?

It's familar to everyone with a Tacoma. 80K miles, don't worry about it.

When you change your valve cover gaskets (and you will) check the clearances. We don't have lifters or adjustable followers so it's done with shims. They don't wear, the valve seats do but all you can do is change the shims........or grind the tips of the valves when out of the head.

    Update:

Had it checked at two service centers, by some genuine Toyota techs. Once drove another first gen with 500k, other one that had a fleet of first gen 4Runners that were all 3.4 swapped. Guys pretty much only work on the older(ish) Toyota motors.

Both told me it’s fine, and to shut up and keep wheeling

    83,000 miles and counting

Mines been doing it for awhile now pretty common and its louder on start up in colder climates. Mine started at 60k or so and now have 144k. I use synthetic oil and add 1/2 a quart of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer. If you change your own oil use a full quart instead of one quart of oil. Takes care of 85-90 percent of the ticking. Works great in cold weather also. Been doing this for ten years now on my 2002. Bought new
