I took my 2005 V6 4runner to the dealership to get a oil change. I went on a cruise tonight with the windows down and heard this ticking noise. It only happens when I accelerate but it doesn't get louder it just get faster. I've replaced the ball joints on both sides and lower control arms on both sides. I didn't have a ticking noise before I took it to the dealership because I would have noticed it. They also removed the baling wire that I used to move the latch to open the hood so I have to make a new wire to check the oil tomorrow. If you would like a video I can send it through email as I don't know how to do it on here. If you have any ideas comment below. I'm calling them tomorrow if I don't figure out the issue myself.

    Thank you!

Is there a rock in the treads of your tires?

I don’t understand why you can’t open your hood.

I’m also puzzled that you can change ballpoints and lower control arms but not your own oil

There’s a lever under your dash to crack the hood ajar and then you stick ur fingers in the gap or thru holes in the grille

It could be any number of things, from the standard 4.0L tick to a pebble in the wheel center cap to a wheel weight brushing against a caliper (they probably did a rotate / balance while servicing your truck), etc etc.

Take it back to the shop and tell them about it.

You could try running a search for “tick”, titles only, in 2nd Gen forum and browse those threads to see if anything jumps out:
