Just recently purchased a 2013 four door TRD off road 4x4 automatic and am absolutely in love with it. But now my wife has Toyota fever but is having trouble deciding between the latter two options. I heard it suggested that the 4runner doesn't have as strong of engine internals as the Tacoma, but was hoping to get confirmation from the experts here. And what other differences are there between the Tacoma, FJ, and 4runner's drivetrains?

Basically they are the same excep the fj and the 4runner have dual vvti vs single vvti in the tacoma and the fj cruiser with a manual has full time 4x4

Ok well that explains some things. But is it true that the Tacoma has forged internals while the 4runner does not? What about the FJ?

Just traded my FJ for a 13 Tacoma, Sure wish they would have upgraded the Taco engine like the FJs.
